Meet the Team
Dr. Belanger began his practice 25 years ago and was
joined by Dr. Marra ten years later. The optometric practices of Dr.
Shoemaker, Dr. Zimmerman and Dr. Jacobson merged in the following years.
Dr. Stephen R. Belanger
is a 1982 graduate of the
Michigan College of Optometry. He also attended Central Michigan University
and Michigan State University. Dr. Belanger was in solo private practice in
Toledo from 1982 until the formation of a partnership with Joseph Marra, O.D.
in 1992. We have merged the practices of Dr. Robert Shoemaker, Dr. Bob
Zimmerman, Dr. Louis Jacobson and recently Dr. Bill Overmyer. The practice
is mainly primary care optometry with subspecialties in contact lenses,
children's vision, and low vision services. Dr. Belanger has been a low
vision consultant for the Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired since
1984. He is the past president of the Toledo Area Optometric Society and is
currently a member of the American Optometric Association and Volunteer
Optometric Services to
Humanity. He and his wife Miriam have three children. His hobbies
are guitar, golf, and travel.
Dr. Joseph T. Marra
is a 1990 graduate of the Ohio State University where he also did his
undergraduate work. His special areas of interest are children's vision,
bifocal contact lenses and ocular pathology. He is a member of the Ohio
Optometric Association and has achieved the top certification by the USP..
Dr. Marra has served as president of the Toledo area Optometric Association.
He enjoys giving educational lectures on vision to grade school
classes. Dr. Marra and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, Roman and Rocco.
In his free time Dr Marra can be found on the golf course.
Dr. William Overmyeris a 1974 graduate of the Illinois College of
Optometry. Prior to that he graduated from Perrysburg High School, and
received an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University. Upon
graduation from optometry school, he practiced with Dr. Don Sloan Corrigan
until 1992, and very recently merged his practice with Drs. Belanger and
Marra. Dr. Overmyer has been married to his high school sweetheart, Carol,
since 1968. They have two grown children, Amy and Kurt, and one grandchild.
Amy and her husband Ryan live in Columbus with grandson John. Kurt and his
wife Katy live in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. Overmyer and Carol enjoy riding
bicycles in the summer and alpine skiing in the winter. They are both huge
Buckeye fans.
